This morning I was browsing around on the famous (or infamous) WarriorForum.
Every morning I head over to the WarriorForum, not to learn new things (although that does happen every once in a while) but just to see what people are asking.
But a strange thing happened this morning, and it was strange enough to where I felt the need to write a blog post on it.
There was about 20 questions on the first page alone where people were basically saying they were new and needed advice.
This got me thinking…
If a complete internet marketing newbie, or someone who was still struggling approached me and asked me for advice, what would I say?
In order to answer my question, I had to think back on my internet marketing career and ask myself questions such as “When did I have my first breakthrough?”, “What made things finally click for me?”, “What methods actually made me money?”
Since I have been doing internet marketing for about 7 years now I actually came up with a pretty large list, but I was able to take that list and break it down into what I believe to be the 5 most important steps to going from a newbie to a success.
Before we get into the five steps, please keep in mind that all links in this article open in a new tab 🙂
1) Know What You Want
If you want to be successful you need to know what you want. You need clear and specific goals written out on a piece of paper and you need to read those goals every single day. Once you have those goals you need to keep them at the front of your mind 24/7. Those goals are going to be what gives you the motivation to work even when you don’t feel like it.
Now I could go on and on about step number 1, but I actually wrote a very detailed blog post on this exact topic a few days ago.
If you haven’t yet read that blog post, go ahead and click here to read it and then come back and finish reading this one.
2) Focus On One Strategy
Again, I talked about this in great detail in the blog post I made the other day, but to summarize it…if you want to be successful you need stop bouncing around from one method to the next. You need to choose one strategy and stick to that strategy until you turn it into a success. Internet marketing is a game of patience, if you purchase a new product and only stick to the method for a week before moving onto the next, you are never going to see results.
On the other hand if you stick to that one product and are determined to make it work, it will work!
3) You Need To Build A List
Ok, steps one and two are more ‘mindset’ tips. Now let’s get into some of the actionable steps!
You must, must, must, must build a list. Did I mention you MUST do it?
If you have been in the internet marketing game for more than three seconds, this advice shouldn’t be new advice to you. Everyone and their moms will tell you that you need to build a list, but they don’t really tell you why.
So WHY should you be building a list?
The answer is simple. I get a lot of traffic from various sources, but if you take away my traffic from any of those sources, whether it be Google, Facebook, Kindle, Twitter, Bing, or anything else, I will still have my list. This lets me not have to worry about Google changing their algorithm or having my Facebook ads account shut down for some crazy reason.
The other reason is because it allows me to write for YOU and not for the search engines. Look at the blog post you are reading right now, it is not “SEO’d” at all. I don’t care if this article ever ranks in the search engines for any keywords or not because this blog post was written for you, not the search engines.
When you focus on writing articles for the search engines, it usually lowers the quality of your articles because you have to write according to the search engines rules, not to your subscribers needs/wants.
Not sure how to build a list?
Not a problem! We Rebels got you covered. We went ahead and put together a list building tutorial for you which you can view here. Just because this is free on our site, don’t take it lightly. I promise it’s going to provide more value to you than almost any other list building course you will ever purchase.
4) Start A Blog
You need a blog. I don’t care what anyone else tells you, you NEED a blog. Your blog is your virtual ‘home’. It gives you an identity and it allows you to express your thoughts as an individual and as a marketer. Also, trust me when I say that having a blog increases YOUR perceived value.
Perceived value is something you will hear me talking about a lot in the future. If you don’t know what perceived value is, let’s take a look at the definition according to Investopedia.com
“The worth that a product or service has in the mind of the consumer. The consumer’s perceived value of a good or service affects the price that he or she is willing to pay for it. For the most part, consumers are unaware of the true cost of production for the products they buy.”
Now I know they are talking about a product or service here, but products and services aren’t the only thing that hold value. YOU hold value also and it’s very important you understand that.
Instead of providing information and value to your subscribers all in the email, bring them to your blog!
On top of increasing your perceived value by making you look more professional, this allows your subscribers to engage with you and allows you to engage with them in the form of commenting.
If you write an awesome blog post, your subscribers will hopefully comment, you can get to know them, and they can get to know you. You can’t accomplish this with a simple email.
5) Start A Mastermind Group
A few months ago Shane Farrell and I released a product called “Breakthrough Mastermind Profits”. We were pumped up for it because we felt like it was our best product we ever created…ironically it was our worst selling product.
We quickly realized that the reason it didn’t sell so well is because it’s not a ‘hot topic’. It’s not ‘sexy’ so to speak.
However, those that did buy it were raving about it and talked about how it changed their perspective on internet marketing.
This products wasn’t necessarily a method to actually make money online, it was a product that shows you how to make any other product you purchase actually work.
The basis behind it was starting your own mastermind group…but what is a Mastermind group?
Napoleon Hill talked about Mastermind Groups in his well-known book called Think and Grow Rich, let’s take a look at how he defined a Mastermind Group
“The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony.”
“No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind [the master mind].”
In other words, a Mastermind is a group of people working together for the same goal.
So how can you apply this to your business?
It’s simple, first thing you need to do is choose your business model…Let’s pretend that you decide you want to get into Kindle Publishing. Find about 5-10 other people who are interesting in Kindle Publishing as well and start a Facebook group with those 5-10 people.
Now make sure everyone reports back to that group at least once per day updating everyone on what they did that day and the progress they are making.
Why is this simple method so valuable? Because it not only holds you accountable, but it allows you to share ideas about what is and is not working. Plus when one member of the group is starting to see success it motivates the rest of the group to get working also. Even though you are all running your own business, in a way you are working together as a team. They will help you out and you will help them out.
Mastermind groups are powerful, so choose your business model and start yours today!
The first two steps in this process are to know what you want and to focus on one thing. Click Here to read a blog post that goes into more detail on these two things
Step three is to build a list. Click here for our free list building tutorial.
Step four is to start a blog to increase your perceived value and engage with your subscribers.
Step 5 is to start your very own mastermind group.
I can honestly say if I were to start all over again, those are the five steps I would take. In fact, if someone takes all five of these steps, I truly don’t see how it’s possible to fail, especially when you have a mastermind group of people who are all working towards the same goal.
Thanks for taking the time to read all this! I would love to hear your thoughts and get to know you so please feel free to leave a comment below!
