Often the answer is staring right back at you in the mirror. That’s right, many times YOU should take a hike. Or at least a walk around the block. Or get a few minutes of fresh air. Allow me to elaborate…
As unbelievable as this may seem to current friends and colleagues, I wasn’t always such a cool cat. Shocking, right?
Back in highschool I was quite the geek. Spent more weekends studying than partying. Talk about wasted youth.
Now, that led to solid grades and a great work ethic, but taught me some bad productivity habits that I’ve had to correct over the years.
Often I’d be cooped up in my room with books open for so long that my Mom would yell at me to go outside and get some fresh air.
Moms are right WAY more often than not. While a stubborn teenager, I didn’t want to admit that those few minutes of fresh air were incredibly helpful. After just a brief time outside, ideally a brisk walk, my mind was clear and I’d get way more productive work done when I got back to it.
Going about an online income can OFTEN mean spending hours at a time in front of a computer. And true to my high school form, I’ve found myself pulling all nighters once in a while and working so long that my productivity tanked.
Yet again, Mom’s solution does the business. I tell myself to take a hike at least a couple of times a day. And it works like a charm.
So go on. Take a hike. That’s the best prescription for increasing productivity.
